About the Artist

Jan Parsley has accomplished what many of us seek to do: transform personal and professional crisis into creative growth. From what normally are considered setbacks, she has created a repertoire of colorful outlooks on unusual circumstances.

Inspired by cognitive therapeutic techniques for treating post traumatic stress disorder and our modern period in the visual arts, Ms. Parsley has developed a unique expression in the two dimensional form. Her work is as varied as her mediums: using acrylic, chalk, found objects, oil, and water color, she paints from child-like realism through the completely abstract.

Unorthodox color pallets forming geometric and organic shapes are the basis of her compositions. Some are recognizable, engaging the viewer to embrace the feeling of a particular scene. Others are completely abstract, leaving the viewer to grant the mind any flight of fancy while enjoying the piece.

Her methods are entirely analog, yet Ms. Parsley derives inspiration from the digital world. The computer's ability to manipulate images on a malleable canvas opened her creativity in the recent past. We are sure to enjoy even more challenging, liberating, and refreshing visualizations in future work.
